rubber flakes in coolant?

'96 camry, changed coolant maybe 15,000 miles ago (Toyota red stuff). I opened the radiator fill cap to do a coolant test (dropper with little floating balls), and noticed little flakes (maybe 1/8 or 1/16 of an inch) of rubber floating in the radiator.

Is this bad? If so, how bad?

I'm thinking of replacing the radiator hoses, and I'm wondering how exactly I'll manage to change the radiator core hoses...

Now tell me how rubber in water will cause idle problems, A filter, not smart as it reduces water flow, less flow=overheat

change all the rubber hoses. then give the cooling system a good flush and fill. that should do the trick.

================================== See if you've got any non-Toyota hoses, I'd suspect those first. Original equipment hoses tend to last a very long time.

They're all original equipment hoses, but it has been 10 years...

I'll change the hoses when I get a spare moment (in a few weeks...)
