95 Blown Head Gasket Recall

Just yesterday my '95 4Runner with the V6 and 108k miles, blew a head gasket. I have been told during previous trips to the dealership that my 4 Runner was not covered by the recall. This means I will have to pay for the repairs, approx $2000. Has anybody else been successful in getting theirs repaired under the recall?

Some Toyota dealerships are reluctant to recall it even though the head office will pay them to do it in that case try another dealership if not contact the Toyota Regional Head Office for your area of the USA and they will give your local dealership about 48 hours to comply and you will get a free rental vehicle for the day or two that it's there.

Today the delearship tells me I need a new motor, $8000. The #1 cylinder has scoring and rust. The tech thinks the rings are broken and it will knock and burn oil if I don't fix it. The rust means the gasket must have been leaking for some time. Since the heads are off, he's invited me to see what he's talking about and then I can think about what I want to do.

The only reason I took it in is to see if my sister's friend, a service writer, can get me a discount. Unfortunately he was not working the day my car broke down so it's being handled by another guy. Believe me, I'm not going to have them put in a new motor for me. I will go to an independant shop. I know I can buy rebuilt 3VZE's for less than $2k.

Check with orientengine.com. I got a rebuilt 3VZE long block for my '95

4Runner shipped and the core returned for $1800.00. This engine has a 3 year unlimited milage warranty. Also they prestart and run each engine before shipping. Call today and their policy is next day delivery.

I am very satisfied with thier work and responce when asking questions either by phone or e-mail.

Local garage did the exchange for about $600.00.

I have a 1990 4x4 with the 3.0 liter engine. It was under recall but I'm not sure about yours. Head gaskets have been a problem for Toyota so you may get lucky.
