Motor noise

Hello everyone, having some bad motor probs and was hoping for some input. My motor has been getting noiser over time, sounds more like valve train, kinda like a diesel at lower rpms/idle. Yesterday, i was driving through a washed out road, it was too deep and i stalled, i managed to get it started, but it was slamming with major noise, i drove it home,it more made noice when i was at lower RPM, no smoke coming out, still has oil pressure. I popped the valve cover today, nothing broken i can see, but alot of really loose rockers, i can slide them side to side against little springs, is that normal. Not all do move like that. Im okay at mechanics, but feeling very lost here. Any help appreciated!

Thanx Ken

22RE

Timing chain eh? would it be sloppy or something? I felt the top of the chain when i had the valve cover off, and i felt tight, but i guesss that doesnt matter much, maybe a guide broke or something.

Hello to anyone reading this. I did a compression check on the engine today and my back cylinder is reading 0 for compression, i popped the valve cover off and the valves seem to work fine, so im assuming piston/connecting rod problems. Can a person pop the pan and remove a bad piston/connecting rod from the bottom? i have heard on some engines you can. I hope i dont have to do the whole engine. I am taking the pan off tomorrow to have a look at what broke, if its the connecting rod or piston. Any help once again is greatly appreciated!

Thanx Ken

Did you check the valve lash ?? If the valves are tight you may get 0 compression also.

so im assuming

No, the cylinder head must come off. The crankshaft would be in the way on the bottom.

i have heard on some engines
