I took my 95 4runner to the Toyota dealership and they thoroughly cleaned the transfer case and found the leak from the shifter plate gasket. Toyota no longer has the gasket but use gasket glue instead. It can be repaired either by dropping the crossmember or thru the console on the inside of the vehicle.
