timing chain cover replace/ where to buy

I noticed a number of posts about timing chaing digging into the timing cover on 22RE. I have the head off, machined, and notice that the timing cover has 2 nice 1/16 to 1/8 inch (approx) grooves/tracks where the chain dug into the timing cover and piece of the plastic guide was broken but think I retrieved the plastic. I am thinking why take a chance and just replace the timing cover, but Toyota in Calgary, Alberta Canada wants 386.00, Napa does not have it, ebay has it from 2 places for about 30 US (quite a difference). The difference in price worries me so any suggestions as to where to buy or if the ones on ebay from cnsautoparts, aprauto, and eristicgaskets. I think cnsautoparts and eristicgaskets are the same supplier. All sell a timing cover for the same price so they are likely very similar. I have new timing chain kit with metal guides from DOA, new gaskets from Toyota, any feedback on picking up a timing cover if needed --any considerations with the cover --should I cheap out on a timing cover? as this is a pretty big job.

The Chinese ones do the job. Several of the ebay sellers seem to utilize the same supplier. I've had good experience with mizumoauto.

Hi there! Just a friendly warning to you in hopes that I am not replying too late! with all the aluminum filings and ground up nylon chain guards, I recommend that you completely tear down the engine and make sure that all oil ports and galleries are cleaned thouroughly, a filter will only catch what it can and the rest fill the tolerances of your cam and crank bearings. Hope you have great luck with your engine If your cover is not completely worn through, clean the grooves with thinners, or break clean, and mix up some JB Weld Available at any Canadian Tire and fill the chain tracks level..file smooth when hardend and set. with your new guides in place and new timing chain, it will be as good as new. Have a good one Mazteryota
