Timing Chain "Shrunk" :>)

Not really, but, removed the head on my 93 22RE for a head gasket replacement. Timing Chain came off fairly easy, #1TDC, chain/sprocket marked as recommended, chain rested on retainer! Going back together now, however the timing chain sprocket sits about 1/16 in to low to go over the cam pin. Rocked the crank back and forth in small increments to try to align to no avail. Same cam, chain, sprocket. Just off by a fraction! Any suggestions? Before I screw something up!!

Haynes book (I know!), says to install chain and then lower the head onto the block! I must be missing something here, but don't know what. Thnx Bill

Did you use a after market head gasket that is thicker than stock one? Some after market gaskets are thicker so that everything still lines up after you mill the head 10 or 20 thousands to flatten it up if it is warped. You might need to remove head and install a thinner head gasket.
