I have a 1966 5 lug Bug I'm building for my niece. Can I put 4 lug drums on her? I have complete suspensions from a 1968 Bug, 1971 & 1973 Super Beetle to 'pirate' for parts. Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks... fisherman [AT] sti [DOT] net
4 Lug drums on 5 Lug Bug

Very easy to do. I had a 66 Type 1 and converted it over to the 4 bolt drums. Front is as easy and installing new bearings in the new 4 bolt drums and installing. Rear drums need to be machined down on the OUTSIDE about 10-12mm. Then install.
Now you will need to drill some holes in the 66 backing plates so you can adjust the brake adjusters.
AFAIK If you want to install the larger brake shoes in the rear you will need new wheel brake cylinders and maybe new backing plates to reposition the adjuster housing. The system will work fine with the smaller brake shoes too. ;-)
