Any cure for a bouncing speedometer? It fluxuates about 20 mph.

Thanks

Cable is dry of lube.

Pull the cable off the rear of the speedo and spray in some lithium grease or silicone lube. Both in the speedo and in the cable.

Cured mine just like that.

Besides lubing the cable ends as the others suggested, remove the wheel end of the cable and straighten the cord as much as possible. A jumping needle is often caused by the end of the cable not being properlly alligned / centered in the wheel end.

I had this problem when I replaced the speedo cable, I was told to lubricate the cable on the inside. I didn't try yet.

There are 3 possible causes that I can think of. Each has its own cure.

1) Cable is dry: Lube the cable. 2) Speedo shaft itself is dry: Lube the speedo shaft. 3) Cable is bent or frayed inside: Replace the cable. 4) Cable is not adjusted correctly: Reach inside the LF wheel and pull the cable housing out all the way, then push it in all the way, then put it halfway in between. -

Clean and grease the speedo, they're easy to remove, and easy to open, and easy to replace.

Mine bounces too, thanks for the tips guys. It also seems to tick dependent on speed - at least i think its the speedo, its something forward of me when I'm driving...

Will WD40 do, or so I need to go shopping again?

Cheers, Anto.

Use some silicone lubricant. WD40 will dissolve any grease it finds, which the innards of your speedometer has.

I seem to recall that it'll trickle down into the speedo cable as well and dry it out, hastening a cable snap.

Extra one to check is that it's not damp inside. Moisture will condense on the plate and magnet assembly that spins and turns the needle causing it to stick and "flick" up to higher speeds. Lubrication and drying can cure it if it hasn't gone for good by spinning way to fast and dragging the needle past the stop.

Usually caused by leaks and rust holes and wet weather, but strip and clean with the high pressure gun can cause water to be splashed into the back.

Hope this helps, Peter
