I have two pre-66 Bugs with king pin front ends that have play in them when adjusted as tight as I can get them. My steering is fine and I wonder at what point I will need to actually deal with the situation. Will king pins with excessive play result in just accelerated tire wear or slightly more catastrophic results, like the tires popping off?

My experience first hand: That car will become dangerous to handle at highway speed whilst cornering or changing lanes. It will have a mind of its own and be very unpredictable. The bushings need replacement and reaming to size, along with new pins.
