Please Ignore unless interested in VW Trends back issues

Hi Folks!

Sorry for intruding on the group today. I thought some here might have an interest in the mag's. I have posted on eBay. I hope it's not out of line to post FA listings here. I have 11 issues of VW Trends from 2002 FA. Click or copy & paste the link below to view auction. Thanx! E.R. Bolivar, oHIo

...............This news group is not a marketing site for interlopers.

......Your magazines aren't worth much at this time but in a few years they might bring maybe 50 cents per issue. The flea markets at the car shows have stacks of them available for pennies per issue.

Hello folks, I do not feel I am an intruder here. I have had my 2 Type 1's ('72 daily driver and '67 future resto project) for many years. I have spent many hours reading posts (I particularly enjoy Mr. Hoover's posts when he decides to visit) in the news group and appreciate the help when I have asked questions in the past. Obviously whether or not VW Trends magazines become collectors items is speculation (as is any purchase by someone for the purpose of profit) on my part. I am not in the business of selling (or marketing) but only trying to recoup some of my investment and the cost of getting the material out to someone who might want (or be interested in) it . I don't see any harm in that and I tried not to take up any ones valuable time by stating that in the subject line of my posting. I have seen posts in the past about people being unable to get a subscription to this magazine, or that magazine for whatever reason and that is what gave me the idea to put these up for auction.Someone may have missed out on the earlier editions and want back issues at a reasonable price or may be looking for a particular issue to complete their collection. They may not have the time, ability, or desire to visit the shows or meets and this method provides a convenient way for them to acquire these magazines. I don't think many of you will be reading this (because of the subject line) but I felt a response to another readers post was necessary as I think he may have misunderstood my intentions and I may not have explained them well enough in my first posting. Thanx for your time! E.R. Bolivar, oHIo

People have put For Sales up here with no objections from anyone. I think someone was just edgy. No harm done, I think. Regarding the magazines - I collect certain books and literature and had a huge collection of certain photography magazines from 1953 - 1970 and could not for the life of me sell them because of the shipping hassle and expense. I hope you fare better.

................Before we get into a pissing contest about how "edgy" I've been lately (maybe true), take a look at this John:

Hello Model Railroaders, Sorry for intruding on your forum but I thought some of you might be interested in the Model Railroader magazines I have up for auction at ebay. I hope it's OK to post FA listings here. There are nine in all from the year 2000 and they are in good condition. Might be worth a look if you are just getting started in the hobby or looking to add to your collection. Here is the item # and a link. item # 5955304703

.............He's been here only a handfull of times over a period of several years and he's not a regular contributor. He is trying to generate an income by selling a variety of unrelated items (currently including soft balls and water skis) on Ebay and has been doing so for some time........A second income?

........Those of us who participate in this group and want to do a favor and let our friends here in on a good deal are perfectly welcome. I bought my '77 from a fellow member of RAMVA who wanted to let the group know before he started advertising it. This guy comes here to make money and that's the only reason that he's here.

reguardless he has as much righ to post as you or I.....he also did a *good* job of letting you know what was in the post without opening it....if we give everyone a load of shit that posts something forsale, we may miss out on exactly what we are looking for......

..................Yeah. This an unmoderated newsgroup and anybody can post anything they want and I can express my negative or positive opinion about some of the things that appear here. And then you can express your opinion about my opinion. And then I can....................

.........Of course, there's also a 'miscellaneous' classified section at

If someone isn't a known regular here, why not list your Ebay link to some magazines there? And if you're looking for something like that from someone that you don't know, why not browse through those listings or even go straight to Ebay and start looking? I just don't think that it's a good idea to encourage people to come here for reasons other than to participate and maybe even contribute if the opportunity arises, in my opinion.

Tim, you do realize that you can start a usenet group, right? and it can be by your rules...you can then be the moderator....win/win situation for you....till then i'll catch the occassional "good deal" that i wasn't exactly looking for but couldn't pass up when they are posted here....i wasn't looking for a Bently manual, but someone here(happened to be a regular) posted they had one and i bought it....i'm not looking for an owners manual for a 68 bug either, but if someone happens to post one for sale, i'll buy it too....

..............As an actual contributor here, you can offer any damn thing you want for sale and I wouldn't say anything unless it's maybe something about your southern pedigree or your lack of culinary acceptability to those of us nawthonas who don't butcher baby pigs in the kitchen sink.

.............Why would I want to do that? These rules that you mention aren't 'my rules'. It's my opinion that someone who has a 'side business' where he spends a lot of time selling on Ebay over a period of several years doesn't qualify as a 'private seller' as mentioned below.

=== Welcome to rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled ===

This article is available for periodic posting and contains a general description and charter for the use of the newsgroup rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled newsgroup and some suggested guidelines for discussions. If you don't understand what this means, ask your system administrator for help, or at least for copies of the newuser documentation. Failing that, please subscribe to the newsgroup news.announce.newusers and read the documentation provided there.

Introduction to the Rec.Autos VW newsgroup hierarchy:

rec.autos.vw

Has been superseded by the two new vw groups (below)

rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled

Is intended for discussion of issues related to the use and ownership of aircooled automobiles manufactured by Volkswagen

rec.autos.makers.vw.watercooled

Is intended for discussion of issues related to the use and ownership of watercooled automobiles manufactured by Volkswagen (this includes the "New Beetle".)

Posting Content:

By consensus of the current readership of rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled, it is a TEXT ONLY newsgroup. This Charter article prohibits posting of binaries files including, but not limited to, electronic pictures and other images. Readers wishing to share images should post images to the newsgroup alt.binaries.vehicles and then "point" readers of rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled to that newsgroup for viewing.

Correct use of capitalization, punctuation and spelling is highly desired.

When posting technical questions, please include details about your car including the year, model and market for which it was manufactured (Europe, US, Australia, etc.)

Crossposting:

Crossposting occurs when more than one newsgroup name is included on the Newsgroups: line in the article header; such articles will appear in all of the newsgroups listed.

Crossposting is one of the most misunderstood and misused facilities on Usenet. You should only post to a group because you feel an article is appropriate; you should NEVER crosspost just to reach a particular audience. This distinction is subtle, but important. It is incumbent on the poster to check the header when replying to a post and to delete any newsgroups to which the reply is not appropriate.

About Posting Items for Sale:

Posting ads for items for sale on rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled is permitted if all of the following are true:

  1. The item is offered for sale by a private party and not a commercial business.

  1. The item offered for sale is used by, or directly relevant to, aircooled Volkswagen vehicles.

  2. The location of the item for sale is included in the post.

  1. The price of the item for sale is included in the post. "Make an offer" is tolerated but not desired. It is best to state a price and then add "or best offer" if the price for the goods is negotiable.

  2. The post should indicate if the seller is willing to ship the goods and if the cost of shipping is included in the asking price or if the buyer is responsible.

Replying:

Be concise, polite and courteous. Type as though you are speaking to a person who is standing in front of you. Do not harass, threaten or use obscene language.

Be tolerant of the worldwide participation of the newsgroup. Never assume that a poster's first language (or writing skills) is English. While English is the de facto standard language on usenet, there are no "laws" mandating it. Do not assume that a poster's is on the same continent or country as you by referencing local or even national businesses or vendors as "the" solution. You can often get some idea of the posters country of origin by examining their header's information (ISP, e-mail address, etc.).

Be careful about your capacities and specifications when posting; in the US we get a mix of Metric and English system values, whereas Europe is almost entirely on the Metric system. This cuts both ways so let us not be parochial about it. Also, do not generalize local regulations as though they are in effect everywhere. Headlight laws in Sweden are decidedly different from those in Idaho.

READ the entire thread that you are replying to prior to posting a reply. Often, discussion within a long thread may deviate from the original post's "Subject" line. Use discretion when changing the Subject in a reply. Do so if the topic has changed significantly from the original post and looks as though it will continue. Try to leave most or all of the original post's Subject intact by parenthesizing the original text as "(was:.....)".

Do not make "Me too" posts, they add nothing to the discussion.

Reply to the original poster's e-mail if you are proving direct information to a question that they have asked.

Reply to the group if the post content is in the general interest of the newsgroup and benefits the discussion.

Reply to both if both of the above are true.

If someone asks a question, don't answer by asserting your own opinions or preferences. If someone asks "How to I add more power to my '61 sunroof Beetle?" don't go off and lecture them on the social responsibility of vintage preservation. Choose not to reply if you don't think you can quell your own biases. Answer objectively and factually as much as possible.

Maintain a sense of humor.

----------------------------------------------------------------- Suggested wording to reply to a violator of this charter:

Your participation in this newsgroup is most welcome, but your post has violated the newsgroup's charter against [posting binaries, using threatening or obscene language, post for a commercial business, crossposting, pick one].

Thank you in advance for abiding by these guidelines which make the best use of this newsgroup.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Concerning Flames:

As much as we might wish it, a flame-free newsgroup is something that most likely will never occur. If you post something truly obnoxious and inflammatory (referred to as a "troll"), don't imagine for a minute that including the words `No Flames' will work. It won't, and you'll get exactly what you deserve. If you are taking a controversial stand on something, be polite, and cite references for your point (other posts, websites, research, etc.) No one is likely to believe bald, unsupported assertions.

Stale and/or Inflammatory Topics:

If you get any indication that a query post of yours is a "beat on" topic the newsgroup (or even if you don't), take the time to go to

formatting link
and search the newsgroup for threads containing the keywords that identify the issue. While discussion of them is certainly ok, and new, factual information is welcome, ravings about them are extremely tiresome, and may get the person who posts them ignored altogether.

but you said it is okay if they are contributors, as this fellow has been for several years....who know's he may read this board everyday yet not post...kinda hard to exclude him from what is considered "okay" as far as the "rules" if you want to enforce *that* part you have to enforce them all....including board ettiquette and such....we probably don't want to go there....

...............It looks like we're going to have to agree to disagree. I don't think this guy was ever much of a contributor in the past and he certainly isn't one now. I also don't think that he qualifies as a private seller. When a member of this group, whether they're a newbie or a longstanding regular, offers something for sale here, it's implied that they're acting as a private seller. The recent episode with kafertoys comes to mind as an example of why it's important to not condone commercial activities here in the guise of a private seller who just wants to help others.
