740 GL: engine shuts down at high RPM

May 02, 2005 1 Replies

It is an 89 model 740 GL sedan. If you punch the accelerator in order to pass a car, hitting about 4000 RPM, the engine shuts down. You have to coast to a stop and put in park before it will start again. What would cause this? Fuel pump ?

Can you shift to neutral and start it up right away?
