940 GLE 16 Valve - why discontinued after 1993?

Hi,

I know the 16 Valve DOHC 4 clylinder Volvo B234F engine was introduced in the 740 GLE/GLT around 1988/1989 and continued on in the 940 GLE until around 1993. When at around 1994 the 940 GLE went back to that slow B230F engine that was in the older 740 GLE's? Why didn't Volvo continue on with the B234F engine in the 940 GLE?

I have driven both a B234F and B230F Volvo with the respective engines. The B230F is SLOW and underpowered, whereas the B234F has good power and goes well with the luxury of a 740/940.

I think they had too many service problems with the 16 valve engine, and it was probably more expensive to produce than the turbo engine as well.
