98 V70 T5...What to look for?

Hi,

I've came across a 98 V70 T5 that I am strongly considering purchasing.

There are about 77,000 Miles, and from what I was told at the test drive, the ac recently 'stopped working'. The condensor sounds as if it comes on, though no air would blow through the vents, hot or cold.

It looks like it was driven minimally over the past few months as the battery also needed a jump.

Anyone know of these symptoms and/or is there anything else I should beware of?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

If you're not getting ANY airflow, it's probably the fan motor. BTW, condensors don't "come on" - compressors do.

My g/f has a S70 T5 with about 110k miles on it, and has had nothing but problems with it since about 90k. Brakes chatter, had both fronts and backs redone, uneven tire wear despite multiple alignments, and an incessant "Check Engine" light that needed to be dealer fixed 1/2 dozen times. What else...CV boots, front axles, you name it.

My opinion? Buy a lower mileage car.

Thanks for the heads up...I'm taking it for a mechanic check up tomorrow prior to purchase.

Keep you posted...

77k already sounds like a low mileage car, even if you buy a nearly new one it'll probably hit that within a few years for the average driver. If these problems were normal for a car of that mileage I'd avoid that model all together.
