Reader, I did get the periodic start fixed, it was the relay to the injectr pewer supply. It is under the hood and I had no idea. This relay is evidently used to power the aux fan but replacing it seems to have fixed the periodic no start/sometimes start and run fine. The repair shop did have to hook it up to a fault trace system to find this problem so that does make me feel a little better. Next step, get the A/C working. Any one know of a good place to get a new compressor unit?
