I have what I consider to be a legitimate concern about my '96 850 turbo.
The 850 has a reputation for brake rotors that warp. Earlier years are worse than later ones, I *think*. Nonetheless, my car will stop very smooth at speeds under 60mph. However, one day I was driving a bit fast after having passed another car, and had the occasion to apply the brakes at 85mph. Not only did the car shudder horribly, I could also tell I was not slowing down very much at all! Quite scary really.
So I'm looking at cross drilled rotors to get relief. My tech says thats about the only way to reliably "fix" this issue. My questions:
- Arecross drilled (Brembo) rotors safe?
- Why does the 850's rotors warp?
Anything else you might add appreciated.
Thanks!
PS. I reference Lemon-Aid as I have been reading about safety concerns on thier web site and wonder if this isn't also a safety concern. Never mind the ABS ecu is haywire on my car! (US $275)
