I posted a few days ago about my rattling shift lever on my 1990 240. The suggestion was that a rubber bushing in the linkage disintegrated, which is exactly what happened. Now I need to replace it. It doesn't look to be high-tech.
Is this a commonly available part (e.g., any rubber bushing of the right size and not restricted to make or model, get 'em at any hardware or auto parts store) or does the replacement have to be a specific part?

when I replaced the bushings on mine, I just bought them at a local autopart store that specializes in imported cars. They were cheap, and he had them on hand. After seeing them and installing them, I was impressed that they probably could have been replaced by something more generic, although it might not have been as long-lasting as I suppose these are (at least, I hope they are!). I'd say to bite the bullet and buy the proper bushings. As I recall, they were around $5, and I don't expect to ever have to replace them again, so it's worth it! Made shifting SO much better!!!
Thanks. As I hunted around last night on the Internet, prices ranged from $0.79 to $2.79. The question will be if local auto parts shops have them- I have had poor luck finding parts for my 240 locally. Anybody know a good source in the Minneapolis area for Volvo 240 parts?
