83 Europa Camper - where's the thermostat?

Hey all,

I've got an 83 Camper van, water cooled, and of late the temperatures not been sitting as stable as usual. I spoke to some friends who said that it could be that the thermostat in the water system is sticking since it's left for a couple of weeks at a time between drives. I was wondering if anyone had any tips as to where the thermostat is and the best way to go about replacing / fixing it?

Thanks

Lee

More important then the thermostat on your VANAGON (in the US) is a bleeder screw on top of the radiator and one in the engine bay on a plastic fitting that looks like a "H" as I recall. Be careful with the plastic fittings as they were no longer available when I sold my 84 Vanagon over 4 years ago. You need to "burp" the air out of the system and it may be a sign of leaky head gaskets. A common problem in the US and a pain to repair. Been there, done that! As for the thermostat, it's on the rear of the engine near the water pump as I recall.
