91' Jetta stalling

Hi!

My daughter's Jetta starts and then sputters to a stop after idling for about 30-45 seconds. The engine then restarts quickly only to die again after 30 seconds or so. Hitting the gas can extend the sputtering by a few more seconds. This is after she got caught in a rainstorm which caused some minor road flodding. I suspect some ignition component got wet, but don't know where to start. My best guess would be the distributor. Any ideas will be most welcome. TIA!!

Best,

Ben

fuel pump relay faulty? CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor)? try unplugging it and starting engine. maybe flooding due to a ruptured FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator). Black exhaust?

But clean the inside of the dist cap for safety sakes! ;-)

Sounds like a fuel problem too.

Thanx Dave, Looks like the fuel pump relay was at fault.

Just a general FYI on that topic...I went through that on my A2 GTI about a year ago...easy fix. Then, last week it started doing the same thing but I found it hard to believe the FPR would be going bad again. Replaced three vac. lines and less than $5 later...voila! Fixed. (Only one was probably bad but replaced a few while I was under there.)
