Just read this post....basically it means your O2 sensor (oxygen sensor) is bad before the cat, because your 1996 you are OBDII (which means 2 oxygen sensors, pre cat/after cat)
Its an easy fix, cost about $70-$100 for O2 sensor from autozone and takes about
5-10 mins to replace it.
