how do i do that?

my ignition switch is bad the mechanic wants 300.00 plus the part to fix it i have some experience in mechanics but never replaced a ignition switch before

It's very easy. In short: Remove steer and switches for turn signal etc. and connectors. Remove clamp bolt and take off the the whole key+switch housing. Remove screw holding the switch. Should take about 1/2h.

unless your mechanic charges $150+ per hour then you better off finding another mechanic!
