Does VW use clutch cables in manual transmission autos anymore? My first car was an '83 Rabbit whose clutch cable broke twice in the five years I owned it. In my subsequent VWs, an '89 Golf GL and now an '02 GTI VR6, I've anticipated a broken clutch cable somewhere down the road.
So, do they still use the cable? Or is there another hi-tech way of connecting the clutch pedal to the clutch mechanism? Can someone briefly explain how it works and possibly allay my fears?

Nope, they are all hydraulic now. basically there's a little master cylinder on the firewall sort of like you'd have for the brakes and then another to actuate the clutch, down on the bellhousing. I personally think the cable ones offer better feel but maybe that's because I just drove those for years.

Thanks for the reply. That makes me feel better while I'm driving through Bay Area traffic.
VR6's are hydraulic. Up to 99 2.0l they were cable and 99.5 and up they all are hydraulic.
Oops, I thought they were all hydraulic. I know the Corrado G60 was, I assumed that that was the changeover.
