I made a compression tester out of an old injector. What kind of reading should I get? I tried it on an 84 turbo diesel that I couldn't get started and got a maximum of 240 psi even after pouring a bit of oil in the cylinders.

It's been awhile but from memory the factory compression min was somewhere around 300psi. At 300 starting required very good glow plugs and a good battery(fast)! The new spec was close to 400psi.
