Just got my GLI !!! Some questions...

This is the greatest car I've ever owned! So smooth, so fast, so classy. It was a toss-up between this and the 20th Anniversary GTI, but the VR6 won out. In fact, this car is so great that I'm getting rid of my beautiful Etienne Aigner Cabriolet with 75k miles because I don't need it anymore!

Anyhow, I have a couple stupid questions:

1) A GTI 337 gear knob could replace the current knob without any modifications, correct? (like the ones for sale on eBay) And I could replace the shift-map plastic piece on the top with the one from my GLI, right? (I *really* want a round shift knob and haven't seen any decent matching ones from aftermarket...)

2) I've NEVER been a fan of silly lighting modifications to the car, but I saw the smoked front-bumper lenses and the smoked side marker lenses on a car of my color (platinum - like a charcoal gray) and they looked like they could have been 100% stock! I'll definitely be getting those... any other color paint choice and I don't think I could consider it.

But here's the question, the Hella smoked tail lights are the same color and would match up pretty well, no? In my opinion, they wouldn't look silly on a platinum car (as opposed to the horrible way they look on a silver car) since they have a tint of red to them but actually match the body. I saw the stock tail lights on a platinum-colored Grand Am and they come semi-smoked from the factory like that - pretty nice looking. Has anyone seen the Hella lights on the back of a platinum Jetta or maybe have pics?

That's it! Thanks!

The shift knob is held in place with a crush type hose clamp. If you lift the shift boot cover you will see a gold-ish color hose clamp around 4 white plastic prongs. Cut the hose clamp off and you can pull the shift knob right up. Slip the new knob in place and hold in place with a new crush type hose clamp. Should use pliers like this:
