My tire took off

Had an interesting experience driving this morning. Going down the highway at about 60 when I started to notice a weird wobble, then like

2 seconds later I see my tire go flying down the road and my drum hits the ground and starts shooting sparks upwards. I was really lucky to make it to the shoulder without getting hit by any of the traffic, or not cause an accident by making all the cars behind me swerve. Had to walk a couple hundred feet to find the wheel. I just put it back on with 3 bolts, 1 from each tire. Guess I need to find some lugnuts tomorrow. I just don't know how it happened. I did my brakes months ago, and I know I tightened them good. It all happened so fast, it's weird. Now I have those suckers on so tight I'll be cursing myself the next time I have to take a tire off. Luckily, only minor paint damage on the fender, and the drum seems to be ok.

Yikes!

And about your ex-Significant Other....

Seriously. That could be vandalism of the worst sort.

hmmm YEP that ex-SO might have done it, but I would check ALL wheel lug bolts and would consider purchasing some wheel locks too. Some wheels should have their bolts retorqued after XX miles to make sure that they are tight. AFAIK the wheels start to squeak when their bolts start to get loose and then on the expressway they can loosen pretty quick. Was it a right rear wheel?

Glad you are alright along with the rest of the people on the road!

Wow you are lucky! Nice job on not hitting anything and not getting hit. Amazing that there was so little damage too although you might want to keep your senses alert for any weird issues w/the brakes for a while.
