Pedal to the floor

Jul 06, 2003 1 Replies

Drove the GTI today and the brake pedal nearly hit the floor... car has 97k miles and we did the brakes at 92k (new rotors and pads)... fluid is full...

Time to bleed or is there a booster part that can fail?

Pump pedal

- if it gets stiffer there may be air in the lines

- if you pumped the pedal and it sits higher now, keep pressure on the pedal: if it sinks with your foot on it the master cylinder may be bad, or some wheel cylinder is leaking - but if it was a wheel cylinder you would be losing fluid.

If the booster fails you get a stiffer pedal, brake performance stays the same you only have to push harder.
