Power steering belt removal - help!

Jul 06, 2004 1 Replies

Hi, attempting to remove the power steering belt on a 1.9TD transporter van ('98 ABL engine).

I can't see any kind of belt tensioner to slacken off!

This vehicle has first a 2 pulley power steering v-belt (crank and pump), and a flat alternator belt (with nice obvious tensioner on the alternator).

The power steering pump seems to be mounted onto a substantial cast bracket (with mounting bolts concealed behind the pulley) and the cast bracket mounted onto the crankcase against a flange, also very static looking - so what adjusts and where - help???

No manual available for this model (in the UK), engine is very similar to Passat - but that manual shows a completely different design of (adjustable) mount.

TIA - Dom.

Go on - I'll answer my own question! There is no belt tensioner on this model, instead unscrew the three bolts on the power steering pump pulley - there are spacers behind the cover plate.
