1991 PASSAT auto transmission valve body faulty - HELP Requested

Anyone know of a cheap source for a replacement transmission valve body?

I checked the transmission out with Ross-Tech VAG tool and it appears that one solenoid is defective.

Does anyone have a diagram showing the pinout and purpose of each pin ( contact) in the valve body cable socket.? I would like to check the continuity of the solenoids but without the pin ( contact) description for the cable it is rather hard .

My local VW dealership wants $1200.00 for a replacement unit.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Did you at least clean up the contacts at the terminal plug for the valve body? Mine were slightly corroded and my 91 Passat auto trans went in limp mode during a heavy rain. Now it seems to be fine after cleaning and treating with some di-electric grease. Let me know if you still need the diagram and I can look in the Bentley CD. BTW mine developed HAD more faults than that and it still may have a temperature sensor fault. :-( later, dave Reminder........ Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. I unpluged the terminal plug and looked at the contacts. They all appeared OK. I wanted the plug config to be able to do coninuity checks on each of the solenoids.

I have it >>From: ronh snipped-for-privacy@nospamsympatico.ca

Yes, I have the Bentley.

VW shop reported that the valve body is faulty.

I am now sourcing a cheap fix.

VW quoted 1200.00 for the valve body alone !!!!

I am having the same problem with my transmission. Did you find a good price on that valve body?

I think one person found wiring problems too. Did you check wiring to the valve body?

Also, regarding the valve body itself. There was nothing wrong with the valve body itself. The electrical harness was the problem.

Send a note if you would like the electrical details on the solenoids in the transmission to determine if your problem is the electrical harness as well.
