08 Wrangler Changes?

Hey everyone

Just curious if anything was changed on the 08 Wrangler. I know like with the TJs they changed around little things from year to year. Just wondering what was changed from the 07.

For what it's worth I know that the warranty changed, to lifetime drivetrain, starting with late production '07's.

I don't know if they'll extend that to include early production '07's.

That warranty is only in the USA I believe.

I believe the '08's off-road capabilities were destroyed the V6 a year before:

I don't know how accurate this is but my dealer says all Wranglers now have the Dana 44 rear axle - but not in the front.

For the 2008 Wrangler X 2 door the Dana 44's are included with the tow package (just under $300 list) not "all" Wranglers. The front axle with the tow package is still Dana 30's.

What you say was true for the 2007 - but NOT the 2008. I just checked the window sticker on my 2008 and under standard equipment, it lists "Next Generation Dana 44 Heavy Duty Rear Axle".

You're right. I was looking at the '07 specs on the Jeep website. A good reason to get the '08 :-)

It has a lot of fine print and is not transferable. It should be titled as such but it is not because you could trade it off when it is but a year or two old and have no warranty on it (life time warranty ends with resale/trade) and tell me that is not going to hurt resale/tradein value!

is this NextGen D44 the one with the aluminum center section?

Yes, front is D30, rear is D44, both "New Generation" models. I guess they broke too many D35's the first year because the V6 has to be revved so high to get any power out of it...

Strange it has taken them so long. All TJ Wranglers here have had the D44 as the only option since they were introduced.

How is "reving the engine so high" going to have any bad effects on the rear axle if the torque at that RPM is about the same?

From the window sticker of my shinny new 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon:

'What' is a 'next generation' axle?

It's not that aluminum thing that can't hold it's own weight on a jack like they put in the Grand is it?

I 'really' wouldn't want one of those pieces of crap.

Correct (obviously). One of the many standard equipment items that make a Rubicon so expensive - and well worth it if you spend a lot of time off road. Just curious: what color did you get?

D44 was standard on Rubicons, optional on Sports & Saharas. That goes for pretty much all years of the TJ. Of course, that's just in the USA. Maybe the UK market was different. ;)
