Is it normal to get a smell when turning off the air conditioning of my Mazda 323? It's a job to describe the smell, but its not very pleasant! thanks Chris

Put the air on recycle and spray dettox anti bacterial spray near the intake - it works for a couple of quid
What the other bloke said. Also try a new pollen / odour filter and see if there's any condensation hanging around anywhere.
Comma have a really cheap way of getting rid of bacteria/virus/ smells etc - £11.99 (at Halfords anywqay) - set the can off/set a/c to recirculation and leave for 10 mins in the car whilst you are not there \of course
I remember about 10 yeas\ago a spanish guy said that an a/c system not
2cleansed2 on a regular basis was the cause of more respratory tract infections / flu like symptoms than real Flu inSpainon;y issue with the can (I admit its cheaper than the £90 from an A/C expert) is that it leaves a residue on the glass/plastic/dash which I cleaned today on my a/c'd MX5)
The message from "maxwell" contains these words:
Sounds like they need a filter before /and/ after the evaporator.
either complain about the cost or the efficiency
Its the britid=sh way of things
british =n thick
(admit itb you thici sods)
Have I been drinking, or is the above really utter gibberish?

Turn the AC off a few minutes before you end your journey. It's the cold air left in the system when you stop that allows the 'bugs' to form and causes the smell. Works on both my cars.
Anyone got a spare silver hammer?
Why its...
Both!
