Dirty Car

My car sometimes gets covered in bird droppings, is there a wax or something that I can put on my car to help wash it off easier. There are trees everywhere down our road so can't really avoid parking under them, I also used to have a cover for my car a few years back but had that stolen off it so reluctant to buy another.

You can get wax/polish which will protect the car. I don't think it makes it any easier to get the mess off, but it will reduce the damage to the paintwork. My car's waxed, and a bird made a mess on it a few days ago. I spent ages trying to get it off, and I almost thought that it wasn't gonna come off. Fortunately it came off in the end. Based on this experience though I would say that it doesn't come off any easier.

Be warned though, I spent about 2.5 hrs waxing my car. It's well worth it, it also protects against UV.

Doesn't make it worth it. How often do you spend 2.5 hours waxing your car in the time it would take the UV to have any effect?

If you worked for those hours instead, you could probably afford a re-spray and a holiday.

I spent 0 hours waxing my car. It was well worth it, I got to do something more fun instead :-)

(hooray for bangernomics...)

Ah yes, but by the time it got to that age it wouldn't be worth respraying, and it wouldn't shine as much if it's unpolished. I only do it about twice a year. So at say =A310/hr, that's =A345/year. So about =A3450 after 10 years, that'll probably get a couple of panels resprayed, maybe half the car lol.

Dunno about the birds in your area, but I don't have that problem here. What are the locals feeding them on ???? I find that a normal wash/wax works for me.

Oh, OK. As long as you don't spend 2 hours waxing it a week...

Where'd you learn maths? :)

My car's waxed, and a bird made a mess on it a few

Best way to get bird shit off is to get some paper towel or a rag, soak it in water & make it really wet (& maybe a little bit of detergent) & then just stick it on top of the offending mess for half an hour. Should wipe off fairly easily after that.

i think there are ancilliary benefits to waxing, like getting to examine the body work in detail. this is usually when you discover surface rust or scratches or dents from the guy who parks beside you.

some people just like the look of a freshly waxed car. i dont think people believe the cumulative time spend at the barbers is a waste even when all you really need to do to maintain a manageable length of hair is to ask the wife to bunch it together and snip off the bunch

I do that every time I wash it. Check the fluids, check the tyres (kinda), and carefully look over every inch of the bodywork as I'm drying it.

The waxed looks last for quite a while.

Not if you're bombing up and down the motorway everyday. I get pissed off when I give my car a good wash on a Sunday and by the time I get home from work Monday night, it looks like I went off-roading in it.
