Fiat Coupe Turbo 20V suspension problem

Mine has a sharp clacking noise, rather tinny, coming from somewhere around the offside rear wheel region. It happens when I go over a speed bump, and more so when also cornering to the left. People have suggested bushes, but it sounds too thin and sharp (tinny) a clack for that - but then, what do I know? Not a lot. It sounds more like wacking a hubcap with a screwdriver, but it doesn't have either.

Any ideas what it might be? And if it is a bush, is it more cost-effective to have the whole arm, or whatever, replaced at the same time? I was thinking of taking it to James Twist of Warrington. Comments welcomed.

Thanks.

screwdriver,

cost-effective

Gulp - that sounds possible, as from what I recall it did just suddenly appear after a drive through the streets of Liverpool!

Cheer up , that's probably cheaper than the arm :-)

Yes, I was thinking that. I have it booked in with James Twist (Warrington) for tomorrow. We'll soon find out.

If it is a joint, does anyone here have any knowledge of the radius arm kit that Fiat sells? One person has mentioned that he had the bushes replaced, not the entire arm.

Is that a main dealer? If so - have they got a particularly good reputation? Because from what I've heard most Fiat main dealers are utterly atrocious and should be avoided like the plague. Find a decent specialist - a couple of regulars to this group (certainly to uk.rec.cars.modifications) would be able to recommend someone good.

Well, you can do - the bushes are generally the knackered part, but they're also a pig to properly remove. I'm not familiar with the Fiat Coupe, but just in general they are - little bits stay in there, and if the car's old-ish the only way to properly get them all out is to burn them out with a blowtorch. Or sometimes they need pressing in and out. Quite often, when taking the extra labour into account, fitting a new arm with bushes already in place is pretty much the same cost.

I suppose you've checked that the wheels are still there? [hides from angry Scousers]

specialist -

uk.rec.cars.modifications)

No - it is an independent Fiat Coupe specialist recommended by someone on fccuk.

OK - thanks for the advice.

I would, but I can't get a response when I try to register. No email received from them, so no password.

Original problem resolved now. Broken suspension joint.
