Overload Protection Relay Part Number Cross Ref. Help

MY 88 MB 420 SEL has an Overload Protection Relay part number of 201 540

3245, 10 amp fuse (red, square type), and a date code of 12.10.87 on the case with 7 connection pins and 2 blank or empty pin spaces not used, this makes it a 9 pin relay socket base. The only part numbers available are: 201 540 3745 for 1988 and later (correct part????) 201 540 0845 for 1987 and earlier (6 pin relay won't fit) I was wondering if MB had made a part number change in later years to this new number of 201 540 3745 due to a modification or an upgrade as this 3745 number would be the correct part number according to the parts book listings now and will the 3745 relay work in this car? The 0845 is only a 6 pin relay and will not work at all. Thanks for any help here. Tim

37-45 9 pin will replace the 32-45. The extra 2 pins where added for for later systems, [ trans] but just don't come into play on your car..the replacement will have 2 fuses on top , but only one is used on your model. Just made it easier for the manufacture to cover both systems with one part..
