cost / steps of converting speed density to MAF

What is the cost and procedure to change a car that's Speed Density to Mass Air Flow? Im guessing it would just be best to find a donor car and take the parts. Or would going aftermarket with somethings be better like a aftermarket MAF and stuff.

John,

I converted my '87 GT a long time ago, and it wasn't as simple as I thought. Bear with me because I am going by memory here, but other than the kit, which was straight forward to install, I had to add three circuits to the computer, and swap a few pins around. Otherwise, computer scan error nightmare. I checked with at least 10 people on how to get rid of the error codes, but the only person who knew how to fix them was Charlie from Charlie Mustangs(?) up in the bay area. Everyone else just sold parts, but Charlie sold me the additional wires with the correct pin end to make things very easy. I haven't talked to Charlie in a long time, but I think the shop may still be around. Anyone have the right info? If needed, I can check which wires were switched (I have them labeled), but a fuel pump power circuit had to be added to the relay under the drivers seat.

Good luck. T

Someone else posted that Charlie passed on a while back. But didn't the upgrade kit come with specific instructions as well as an interface adapter that should've avoided the problems you mentioned?

John, Do you need to switch to mass-air? If you only have minor bolt-ons planned, there's no need. Speed density can handle exhaust changes, roller rockers, intakes, and even superchargers and heads. However, cams _will_ cause problems for speed density... it'll never idle right.
