AC Seal Rot

Based on my knowledge regarding automobile airconditioning, you better be running your air conditioning for all 12 months, if you want the seals that keep the compressor intact, to continue to do their job. In the cold months you only have to run it for 10 minutes, once a week to keep the seals moist.

My old Oldsmobile used to be set up in such a way that it ran everytime I used the air movement system. Thus, when the heat was on so was the AC and it dried the inside of the car. That is a good way to design the car, so that the AC unit doesn't stop working in the 9th year from the seals dry rotting.

As I recall this can't happen in a Prius as the compressor and its electric motor are inside one closed unit; there are no seals on any rotating parts.
