Hi group, I have just bought a 94 218 td, the problem is that after about 3 weeks the tacho has stopped working correctly.
Upon start-up it will rise to say 2000rpm then drop to zero straight away, perhaps flickering for the next 10miles.
Any ideas??

Dead alternator - the tacho drive comes from the alt, and when it fails it's usually indicative of a failing alternator..
