Quite a few in the east. This is one of the neatest- steam logging train to the top of a West Virginia mountain starting from the old logging village in the valley. Paul Johnson.
This is supposed to be a great one, I look forward to checking it out one of these days...

Try this link for Canadian Railroad Tours:
Bob (but....how do you get from Tulsa to Canada?)
Steam trains are fun, and I have always loved steam power. I rode the narrow guage train from Durango to Silverton,CO for the 2nd time in '03, prior to attending the Trinidad S-P meet. In '99 we rode the steam train up Mt Washington in NH. Both were great rides. Here in TX, we have steam trains in E. Texas & near Austin.

How much do you want to spend? Two People - Paris to Istanbul on Orient Express $13000 complete Cross Austrailia, 1/2 the trip is under steam. Side trip to Alice Springs is meter guage steam. California has the Wine Train Durango to Silverton...reservations needed, minimum 90 days in advance. Trip is about 5 hours each way. Cumbres & Toltec - Chama NM to Alamosa Col. Trip is 9 hours, you cross the state boarders 19 times, you can drive RT 17 an 40 min. England, I still believe the Royal Scotsman runs, plus there are about 20 meter guage railroads
Also Check with the Union Pacific to see when they will run the Big Boy across.

saw a show on TV few night back about moving weird things..
the first was an 800,000 steam locomotive.. they lifted it up with 4 BIG hydraulic jacks, put it on trailer and hauled it on a
52?? axle trailer to its new home..the SECOND tho was a 2 million # 2-10-4 loco and tender..
they laid track down on the street and pulled it the 2 miles to its new home..

I've rode the train near Austin Tx., was a fun ride but too short and did not have a dinning car, it was a steam train then. Thanks for all the suggestions, the NM- Colorado tour looks like something i'd be intersted in since its within driving distance from Tulsa, but the others aren't ruled out yet.

Like those Mega Mover shows, but missed the one on Trains. Dang a 2-10-4 would be cool to see running, real or model

There are two that I know of: 1) The Great Smokey Moutain Railroad runs out of Bryson City, NC. We did that many years ago. They have a wide variety of rides, even one th at stops along the way to let you off at an outfitter so that you can go white water rafting. The train goes on and comes back to pick you up later in the day.

Funny thing, while on my recent cruise I brought along a bunch of magazines to finish. The two on top were open to articles on this subject.
One was a sorrta recent AARP megazine and the other one was not-too-old "Military Officer", the mnthly publication of the formally-titled The Retired Officer Association.
Contact a few nearby retired officers and they can probably supply one or both magazines.
