1981 Ford Fairmont what is original Paint type.

Anyone out there know what the original type of paint is on a 1981 Ford Fairmont ? Color of paint is light blue.

Would it be lacquer, if so Nitro Lacquer or Acrylic Lacquer. Or is it an Enamel ?

Your help much appreciated.

Thanks in advance Denny B

I'd say Daniel is 'almost' correct--IIRC, Fords used ACRYLIC ENAMEL (There is also a SYNTHOL enamel.) Acrylic is harder than synthol and actually harder than lacquer, imho; and if it has no metallics in it, one can wet sand and buff it just like lacquer and get out all the orangepeel Ford left in even their luxury cars. Chryslers left lots of orangepel in their paints, too. (I have actually top-coated metallics with clear acrylic and wet-sanded and buffed them to make 'em look like hand-rubbed lacquer, only it would last much better--harder but also more brittle when it comes to rock-chips!) HTH & good luck, sdlomi

It is acrylic enamel.. Only General Motors used a laquer type paint in those years..

Bob, post your question on the link above where many can guide you.

I have a 1981 Fairmont, light blue I plan to spray in the next few months. The sight above can give you all the painting info you need.
