90 Jetta ignition / control module query

I'm curious which part is flaking out and needs to be replaced. This is on my 90 Jetta Carat 1.8.

Engine starts just fine. When it's partially warmed up, the ignition will cut in and out for a little bit. It's as if someone flips the ignition off and on repetitively at 1 to 2 second intervals for about

15 seconds. It usually happens about 2000 rpm, and once it's done that it runs flawlessly until the engine cools off again. I thought the culprit might be the control module that sits on the firewall by the wiper motor, but am now wondering if something else could be causing it. If it matters, it's a 1.8 8v (PF engine code) with a 5-sp manual trans. Ideas?

Thanks, Todd

could be so many things like: needing tune up (plugs, rotor, cap, wires, filters) Oxygen sensor or it's wiring ground wires for the fuel injection ign. switch distributor fuel pumps or relay or regulator

You need to do some testing and examination AFTER the tune up. What happens to the tach when you are experiencing this problem? What do the spark plugs look like, and what are you running? Did you check the grounding wires at the cylinder head or intake manifold?

Got a Bentley for your vehicle? Usually with the Bentley and a digital VOM you can do some good testing of your FI system. BTW guessing is no fun and can get very expensive! ;-)
