Don't buy a VW

You can't recognize me as a VW driver at night because I'm operating in stealth mode with my burned out headlights.

AS I recall, the book called for dropping the front crossmember.

If your mechanic can do an '84 turbo Colt in 2 hours he'd be able to do my VW in 30 minutes.

Now, go away.

As an owner of many VW's beginning with the Squareback to my current 99.5 Jetta TDI, I agree that VW's are far more expensive to repair in comparison to owners of Toyota's. A timing belt change costs me 500... a Toyota 225 just to site one example. My return on investment and cost of ownership for my current Jetta is off the charts. Sure it's wonderful to get 48 MPG, but when you consider I have spent over 3500 dollars on repairs for only 120,000 miles (turbocharger most recently, O2sensors, 3 timing belts because of the ridiculously short timing belt change intervals the VW recommends) the true cost of ownership is very high. This is my last VW purchase... I will be buying Toyota next time which JD Powers cites as having one of the lowest costs of ownership...

Basically it comes down to having dexterity to work in small spaces. On the Golf the dim is right tight to the battery. It's a pain to change but not impossible unless you have gorrilia hands.

Heh. I liked your use of rhesolution [sic] in another post (intentional or not) although you seem to have an axis 2 personality disorder--Happy New Year, it's not your fault :)

Your rating as a borderline troll: 3.5/10

Hmmmm, hostile and troll like messages from snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com and snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com seem to be coming from the same place. Why don't you do something productive with your time loser.

Well, actually, I have changed the headlights on my own. My problem with VW is that the 2k1 Golf's owners manual doesn't tell you how to do it. It tells you to take it to a dealership. So, I went to my dealership to inquire about how I would change the bulb myself. One of the service desk guys showed me VW's procedure for changing a headlight bulb. This procedure called for me to remove the grill and then drop the front bumper fairing. I am not sure if these guys are idiots, or if they think I am. Yes, I figured out how to change the bulb. And...(bringing it all the way back home to my original point)...if you ask a dealer how to change the bulb you will very likely get an absurd answer.

I don't doubt this is true...but I think you could repeat the process at any dealership selling any brand of car. To me, while this is a valid complaint, it is not a reason to avoid VW any more than it would be a reason to avoid any car make.

That's the procedure. Mountain out of a mole-hill.

In Germany, vehicles are required to carry spare globes. The driver is expected to change the globe "at the roadside" as soon as it blows. Caused a bit of a tiz in Germany when the recommended procedure was published.

I've been given to understand that the shortcut (knuckle scraping, fiddly) process is appropriate for most Golfs though.

Do it on a New Beetle...and then ask the question again.

sure... i just did this a few weeks ago... i went in to Bernardi VW in Natick, MA and walked up to the parts counter... picked up a bulb for the driver's side headlight for my 2003 "Bora GTI"... the advisor asked if i needed a hand with it... i said, sure, why not... he had someone come out and show me how to replace the bulb... no charge... in and out in 5 minutes!!

I think you are someone most folks had the good sense to killfile under another ID, and now your pathetic self is back here to annoy people again under a new name. What a hollow life you must have when there is nothing you'd rather do than bait a bunch of people who like something. Do you also follow old ladies around the grocery store telling them how you hate the food they are buying?

Get a life sport.

When I returned with an air filter I was having a problem with, I went back to the dealer. The parts guy said he would have a tech come out and have a look. The tech did all the work for me and showed me the trick putting the air cleaner in. Not only was it free, but she was the best looking tech I have ever seen.
