and if it craps, you get to pay removal labor and sit on your thumb while the unit is returned for 'evaluation'

then you MIGHT get a different one..............

Oh Boy,, I didn't know that this was going to be a topic of "argument"... Gary, It sounds like you are in the "feild" of automotive repair. I know what you are saying about the shop being stuck, but most likely the shops around here will be a dealer for jasper.. "maybe" Who knows,, I was thinking about pulling it myself and swapping it, I don't want to do it twice either. I am not afraid of the work, but afraid of having to do the work twice. I am currently putting new head gaskets on my 96 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 work truck,, Water in the oil,, intake gaskets looked rough,, but not rough enough to do it twice just in case the head gaskets were bad. so do it once,, do it right the first time,, and hope the parts will hold up,regardless of what part. Hopefully if I go with the reman trans,, it will be good,, but if not,, here we go again is all i know,, thanks for your input,, and i respect your knowledge and advice. phillip

I don't sell their crap, I rebuild them myself

but I've had calls from two area shops already this year, that have had Jasper's fail, and Jasper REFUSES to consider any labor claims until the unit is back at their facility.

needless to say, I sold both of them units I've built, delivered them, helped install them, and will cover the warranty

Uh Gary is not "in the feild of auto repair" He OWNS and OPERATES a shop called NO BULL Transmissions. Think he might know a thing or two about transmissions?

As for Jasper I have dealt with them a few times with both engines and transmissions. (Customer is always right you know....) If you buy a trans directly from them and install it yourself, and it fails, they will NOT send you a replacement until they receive the failed unit back in to their shop, They determine what caused the failure and then send you another trans (or sometimes the same one if they can repair it). If you take it to a Jasper Dealer then they will replace it and pay for labor if it fails. If you take it to an independent shop (not a Jasper dealer) you get the same thing as if you bought it directly BUT they will pay the labor after the trans is returned to them If it failed due to something they did or didn't do, however the shop waits for that money until Jasper decides IF it is a justified replacement.

From Jaspers Warranty The buyer must notify JASPER of any warranty claim PRIOR to repair for assignment of an authorization number. The work will be performed either at JASPER's Factory or by another selected vendor. It is the sole responsibility of the buyer to pay for such work and in writing, submit a claim with the alleged defective parts shipped prepaid to JASPER for it's review and sole determination.

Read some posts by Gary. He runs his own transmission shop, offers a warranty better than GM's, and knows his shit dead on. I'd take the time to bring my truck to him if my tranny ever died.

Hey Gary, Where are you located and would you consider doing my rebuild if I were to freight it to you? This isn't an off road truck, it is my wifes grocery getter, I don't know why it failed so early(100K), but then again, it is mechanical. I can do the removal & install myself, and then it will be driven normally. This is the family hauler and we do not treat it hard at all. But I do know that it is hard to deal over spans of distance. I just am not sure who is reputable around here(So.Middle Tennessee). Thanks again, Phillip
