98 chevrolet

Thinking about importing a 1998 Chevrolet to Canada.

One requirement is daytime running lights.

Where is the daytime running light module on these trucks?

Would i be better off to find a used one, or are they inexpensive enough that i should just get a new one?

Any known problems with these trucks or things i should have a second look at before buying?

Its a 98 z71 ext cab, 4x4, 350

Below is the location of the unit, copy/pasted from a DRL disabling sight. When installing, my is it's not just as simple as finding a unit and installing it. The computer likely must be reprogrammed. Not 100% sure on this, but I do know that even simple things like installing factory fog lights on newer models require a some reprogramming.

GM 98 full size truck (probably same for 96-99 C/K). There is a cigarette pack sized finned black heat sink (this is a double diode, 2 volt drop) located near the steering column. Unplug the 2 wire connector, this will remove DRL on any GM car using low beam DRL. (Will not defeat the auto ON)

The DRL module is powered by the ignition switch:

When the ignition switch goes bad, it's like the vehicle is haunted.

With the key off, the headlights go on and off by themselfs.

Sounds like the GM vehicles have the DRL's in the usa do they?

The vehicle i'm looking at is in Maine. And i forgot to think about checking the DRL's. I wonder if the 98 chev would have them in maine (it was purchased in maine)

I setup DRl's on my 95. Was easy, 12v relay. Bulbs last just as long. Is there a requirement that the headlamp be a certain luminance? I know early DRLs were either a resistor in series, or the lamps in series. Last I checked GM was running one lamp as a DRL.

Per Picasso:

My personal experience:

----------------------------------------------------------------- Transmission: 4L60E gets about 30k miles on a valve body. The real fix is reputed tb boring out a cylinder in it and putting in a sleeve of more durable material. Got about 60k on that fix, keeping my fingers crossed.

Intake Manifold Gasket: I've been getting about 70k per gasket. Supposedly after-market gaskets are available to mitigate or eliminate the problem.

Roof Rack Bolts: Try to get the seller to remove all the bolts, slather them in Never-Seize, and replace them. At least then you'll know you can get them off if/when rust becomes an issue.

No disrespect intended:

But, the last time I checked. Maine was in the good ole USA!

Most people bypass then illegally.

But I'm sure splicing the green wire back together will re-enable them.

I'm sure it's in there;

And it was just disabled if the DRL's don't work.

I'm sure the Canadian vehicles have all the wiring, just minus the module.

DRL's are law across canada, its the US that i thought may not have the DRL module, depending on state. I know in Maine it is not law.. christ you don't evne need to wear a helmet on a motorcycle! :) (now that's just stupid!) But they can't pull you over in maine just for a seatbelt.. i like that ;)

FWIW, my 1998 Monte Carlo Z34 is equipped with daytime running lights, as is my 2000 Blazer...
