Is there a way to see if a starter is going bad before it goes out? Maybe with a multimeter? Starting is slow. Maybe low batteries or alternator not charging them enough. Leaning more towards the alternator, but want to be able to test the starter too. TIA.

Take a good battery and use jumper cables directly to the starter. runs good??? john
