Does anyone local to Buffalo,NY Have a good 700r4 for a decent price?

Hey guys just blew the tranny in my 1989 chevy 4x4. And of course I'm broke so any help locating a good deal on one local to Buffalo,NY would be greatly appreciated. It would be great if it was recently rebuilt or known excellent condition as the last one from the scrap yard only lasted a year. Thanks

When you shop for a used 700R4 from a bone yard pay attention to the vehicle it came out of (mileage, tire size and axle ratio) because that will give you a gauge as to how much service life it has left. The 700R4's weakness is heat and certain senerios place a lot of heat stress on it because it is otherwise a sound design. (the newer 4L60E is basically a electronically controlled 700R4) You want a 87 or later model or a earlier one that has been rebuilt and brought up to current specs. Do instal a aux tranny cooler with next tranny and change fluid and filter every 20 to 30 K with a fresh change when you install it. Do this and you will have a long service life. Do stay away from shift kits because the intermediate sprags are not that strong and while they hold up fine with stock shifts they are prone to fail over time with hard shift kits. (the factory softens the shifts for a reason) Yuu might check out link below
