GMC JIMMY 1997 ,.........Hell of a problem

Hi Everyone, I have a 1997 Gmc Jimmy with 125,000 miles. It was fine until yesterday, i had went to work and stopped at the store on the way home. When i came out of the store, the check engine soon light came on.........i thought, well it needs an oil change soon, maybe thats it. The garage was right up the road so i thought i will take it in and change the oil. As i started to back out..........it would barely move, dragging as if the transmission was out. But as i pushed down on the gas, it slowly started going faster and i was able to go ..........stopped at a red light and again when i started out.....would barely go but as i pushed down on the gas, it went faster but still felt like the trans was going out. The garage i took it too, said it was the transmission and i should have it towed to a trans shop. I did and they called me today and said the transmission is fine nothing showing up on codes. Said they had driven it and the light never came on and it was driving fine. He said he thought it might be the brakes, maybe they were locking up and causing it. I said yes, i had the brakes replaced months ago and i felt like they were slipping and it was squeeking like crazy. I have taken back 3 times and the garage said nothing wrong............just metal in the brake pads., and the ABS brakes..just normal.

Please, someone......what is wrong with it? :) I hate to have it towed to a brake shop if thats not the problem. Could it be the ABS? Thanks alot, Kimberly

If there are no codes either current or history, I would remove a Oxygen senson forward of the catyalitic convertor then drive to see if problem better, if it is-then the convertor is the answer(Problem). I've had this happen numerous times on these vehicles. Many times they will store a 420 code but...good luck. Atleast with this test you're out nothing but the labor to do. Jerry @Peru- Motors ps if it turns out to be the cat-buy a known, good quality one or you'll be doing this repair again soon.
