Everyone is always looking for a magic cure. Detriot spends hundreds of millions of dollars certifing engine for emissons and the after market spends zero dollars certifying their products. They usually market them through the "off road" clause that lets them legally sell them. If it was possible to tune in much better MPG AND emmisions detriot would have done it years ago. In theory a gas engine has a maximum effeciency of close to 30% and a diesel close to 38 percent. There is about 107,000 to 123,000 BTU?s in a gallon of gas (depending on mix with gas with alchol being the lowest) and about 140,000 BTU?s in a gallon of diesel. (there is approx 2500BTU in a HP too) This heat energy is converted to work. There is no magic add on that will increase the heat contant of fuel to add energy to it to decrease the amount of fuel required to run it. It takes "X" amount of HP to move you truck down the road and that amount is controled by speed, weight, load and drag and factored with fuel energy content and engine efficency. Any gains that are achieved with efficency improvemnts but they rarely go hand in hand with emmissions and must still follow general engine efficency theories too. The general public wants to believe in magic cures so they tend to "eat them up"
