Oil pump - high flow?

Hi everyone! Just got my long-block from the engine builder today.

need to get an oil pump for it and was wondering if I should go with high flow unit. Would it be more beneficial than a stock one? Or does i only matter with heavily modified race motors? Mine is a fairly mil

Bronco - It depends, if you're using a stock oil pan, go with a quality stock type pump. If you're using a high capacity oil pan (8-10 qts) then you would consider a high volume pump. I would consult the engine builder... see what he says.

This is not bad advise but if engine is tight a stock pump will work find but a external engine oil cooler would be a better investment if you want to try to prolong engine life.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll go with a good stock type pump sinc

it'll be the stock oil pan. I never thought of a cooler but that's great idea. Thanks guys! :

You only need a high flow pump for a racing engine. A high flow in a regular engine in good condition will just pump more oil thru the relief valve, wasting horsepower.
