30k service for RSX

I went in for an oil change today, and the dealer wanted to do a 30k service...for $400...I asked what was done and the only thing he mentioned (out of the list of things to be done) that sounded 'out of the ordinary' was draining and refilling the tranny (auto). How important is this really? The rest of the stuff (cabin air filter, engine air filter, etc.) are stuff I can do my self.

Do NOT rely on the dealer's description of a "30K Service", as it is likely to be larded up with things that they've added to improve their bottom line.

You need to look in your Owner's Manual. This book was included with your car so that you would know how Honda (NOT the dealer) wanted you to take carte of your new car.

(The dealer is NOT "Honda", but is a totally separate company with different ownership. They only lease a Honda franchise from Honda.)

Your dashboard Maintenance Minder will display a code that is explained in the relevant section of the Owner's Manual. The items to be serviced will be identified in some tables in the Owner's Manual.

I haven't actually looked it up, but I believe your tranny fluid isn't officially due for a change until about 90K miles. Although changing it (and the engine oil) early is an excellent idea.
