Integra '91 LS HB - Sudden Battery draining problem ?

Question

Is there a problem in these ageing Integras that suddenly starts draining the battery ?

--- Details ---- I recently (3 month ago) replaced the Main Relay due to the Start and immediately die after sitting in the sun for couple hours problem. No problems till last two weeks.

2 weeks ago car suddenly will not crank due to low battery (no prior warning signs like slow crank ). Did not have time or patience to jump drive and see. So, i replaced it's "Diehard Gold" battery as it was showing 10.4 volts and it was past it's warrantee date and the battery service center tested it and said it was dead ???

Now two weeks later (after sitting over night) it does the slow wa...... wa.......wa...... crank ! thing like a weak battery or heavily drained battery would do ?

There is no evidence of anything left on, not the lights nor interiors etc....

Is there a problem in these ageing Integras that suddenly starts draining the battery ?

Unlikely, in my experience.

The very first thing I'd do before anything else is to determine the system voltage with the engine running. You'd use a $10 multimeter for this task, plus your own two hands. No other tools. You're expecting at /least/ 13.5 volts between the battery terminals, preferably closer to 14.4 volts.

If you see closer to 12.6 volts or less, something bad is happening.

Once the engine-running system voltage is known, diagnostics can be continued.

Thanks for help Tegger,

It turned out to be "gender biased" mis-communication.

I was told (when battery died) that the car was frequently cranking slowly in the morning for a couple of weeks. I did not investigate the term "cranking slowly" which i found out did not mean the slow strained (wwwwah........wwwwwah) but it meant that he engine did the "chuga" a couple (2-3) more "chugas" before firing up than it used to do.

The alternator is putting out 14.45 volts.
