Tow hitch on '99 A6 2.8 Quattro?

I've got a '99 A6 2.8 Quattro that I would like to take cross country soon. I'm curious what you all think about getting a tow hitch installed to lug some furniture and a motorcycle? Is this something I should have the dealer do? Any recommendations on specific types of tow hitches and a safe max weight for the loaded trailer?

Thanks!

the dealer will charge a fortune for a towbar but as your vehicle is presumably out of manufacturer's warranty then a decent towing specialist

*should* fit one for a lot less.

i bought my 2004 a4 with a detachable towbar (costs around 700 GBP) and was recommended by the audi dealer that a maximum towing load should not exceed

75% of the vehicle's mass. that will depend too on the number of axles on the trailer.

Just about any towing dealer should be able to fit you with a towbar, if they haven't a factory compatible one they can make it. I worked for a welding company when I was in highschool and we made a lot of hitches

There is one factory hitch available for my A6 that recesses out ouf sight when not in use. It is a bit more expensive though..
