some people use a propane bottle *unlit* ... just turn the knob and allow some gas to escape ... slowly wave it around the intake system when the problem is manifesting ... if it runs better when you bring it back to the same place it runs better, then that is where your leak is as the propane temporarily fills the leak with fuel fixing the engine performance problem momentarily giving you a better idea what to fiddle with in sorting out what might be broken.
